Our solar system is full of mysteries that many have attempted to uncover, often turning to religion to comprehend both what we can see and the unseen depths of the universe.

Join David Wilkinson to celebrate 100 years of Science at Durham University. He will share the story of the remarkable life of Victorian astronomer Temple Chevallier, one of the founders of the Durham University Observatory, and how our knowledge of the universe expanded with Stephen Hawking’s ground-breaking research on black holes and the Big Bang.

Reverend Professor David Wilkinson is the former Principal of St John’s College, and a Professor in the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University. He has doctorates in astrophysics and theology and is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Chaired by Professor Martin Ward, Durham University
